Wisteria Lane Reborn: 'Desperate Housewives' Reboot in Development at Onyx Collective

Still from the series 'Desperate Housewives'

Beneath their perfect lives lie deep secrets, echoing the tone of the original hit.

Wisteria Lane, the iconic street from Desperate Housewives, is set for a fresh reboot at Onyx Collective, produced by Kerry Washington’s Simpson Street and 20th Television. Written by Natalie Chaidez (The Flight Attendant), the new series promises a fun, sexy, darkly comedic soap/mystery centered on five diverse friends and frenemies living in a picture-perfect cul-de-sac.

Desperate Housewives starred Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan as women uncovering dark mysteries after their neighbor’s suicide. While creator Marc Cherry wasn’t involved in the pitch, he’s aware of the project and might join later. Executive producers include Chaidez, Washington, Pilar Savone, and Stacey Sher. It’s unclear if Washington will appear on screen.

The reboot comes amid growing fan demand following Desperate Housewives’ 20th anniversary last year. Though no original characters are confirmed to return, the show will keep its famous setting — Wisteria Lane — a real street on Universal Studios’ backlot and a popular tourist spot. Filming locations are yet to be decided.

Desperate Housewives Still

Simpson Street has strong ties with Hulu and Disney units through hits like Reasonable Doubt and Little Fires Everywhere. Meanwhile, Hulu is also developing reboots of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Prison Break. The new Wisteria Lane aims to revive the beloved blend of mystery, drama, and dark comedy that made the original series a cultural phenomenon.
