The A24 studio has released a trailer for the war drama Warfare, set in 2006 during the U.S. invasion of Iraq. The film is set to be released in 2025, with the exact date yet to be announced.
The plot centers around a Navy SEAL team that is lying in wait in the house of an Iraqi family, observing the advance of American troops through rebel territory. According to the official synopsis, it is "an intuitive and grounded story of modern warfare, told like never before: in real-time and based on the memories of those who personally experienced the events depicted."
The film was created in collaboration by Alex Garland (Annihilation, Ex Machina) and Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza. They co-wrote the screenplay and served as directors. D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai portrays Mendoza on screen. The cast also includes Will Poulter, Joseph Quinn, Charles Melton, Cosmo Jarvis, Michael Gandolfini, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, and others.
The trailer shows soldiers passing the time while lying in wait, but soon they find themselves under fire. Quinn's character suffers a serious injury, but his comrades do not abandon him and drag him to safety.
