The Franco-German channel Arte has announced the much-anticipated new film Minotaur from acclaimed Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev. This marks Zvyagintsev's sixth feature film and is set to be shot in Riga, Latvia, from September to November.
The story follows Gleb, a troubled Russian entrepreneur facing the difficult decision of laying off his employees while grappling with the shocking revelation of his wife’s affair. This project comes after a significant hiatus since his last film, Loveless, released in 2017. Following a challenging period, including a medically induced coma due to a severe reaction to the COVID-19 vaccine, Zvyagintsev experienced extensive recovery, solidifying his return to filmmaking.
Previously, he was working on What Happens, his anticipated English-language debut, a project ultimately shelved. Known for his powerful storytelling, Zvyagintsev is a two-time Oscar nominee, with notable films like The Return and Leviathan underscoring his impact on modern cinema.
