This Romantic Comedy Costs as Much as a Major Blockbuster: The Money Wasn't Spent on Special Effects or Expensive Locations

Still from the film 'How Do You Know?'

Where did they spend the entire budget?

Filming is a profitable but expensive pleasure. The expenses for each day are colossal, so filmmakers usually carefully plan their budget. And even give preference to more "budget" genres.

As a rule, romantic comedies are much cheaper than superhero blockbusters. However, this 2010 rom-com cost $ 120 million, almost as much as the first part of Iron Man.

Director James L Brooks made a film about the difficult choice of a life partner. The main character of How Do You Know? is torn between an honest guy with a difficult fate and a real playboy.

The beautiful Lisa was played by the famous blonde Reese Witherspoon, and her gentlemen Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd. Jack Nicholson also appeared in the film, this is the last role of the cult actor to date.

It's not hard to guess that with such a star cast, where the money were spent. Witherspoon got $15 million, Nicholson - $12 million, Wilson - $10 million, and Rudd - $3 million. In total, 40% of the budget was spent on the director and actors' salaries, and the remaining $70 million was spent on the filming process.
