Old Guy could have been a stylish crime comedy about a mercenary unwilling to accept his pension. Starring Christoph Waltz, with Lucy Liu and Cooper Hoffman (son of Philip Seymour Hoffman) in supporting roles, the film tells the story of an aging hitman forced to take on a young partner to pass the torch. But everything falls apart from the start — the script fails both in humour and logic.
As a result, the film holds a meagre 5.2 IMDb rating.
Old Man Waltz Carries the Film with Sheer Charisma
He does everything he can: smirks, delivers dad jokes, and shoots straight. His character is an old-school loner, always accompanied by whiskey and a cigarette. But the chemistry between characters was never written, and the dialogue feels lifted from the forgotten drafts of early 2000s action flicks.

A Waste of Good Actors
Lucy Liu is solid, but her character is barely explored. Cooper Hoffman plays a killer who mostly just looks confused. The ending is predictable, the action is average, and the message — "old guys can still do stuff" — has long become a meme. Old Guy tries to be fun, but ends up feeling like a joke told by the wrong person at the wrong time.
