This 'Old' Film Has a Truly Outstanding Ending, and It's Ratings are Crazy: a Note for a Weekend Evening

Stills from the movie 'The Sixth Sense' (1999)

We don't live by novelties alone.

Some films are able not only to surprise, but also to turn perception upside down. The Sixth Sense is one of those rare thrillers that after watching it makes you go back and watch it again, already knowing the main plot.

The story revolves around child psychologist Malcolm Crowe, played by Bruce Willis. He undertakes to help a boy Cole, who suffers from a terrifying gift — the child sees ghosts. As the plot develops, the doctor tries to find a way to ease the boy's suffering, and at the same time to cope with his inner demons. But the main blow to the viewer falls on the ending — it is at this moment that you realize that the whole film was a brilliant illusion.

Why is it worth watching?

The sixth sence still

M. Night Shyamalan created a true masterpiece, which is still included in the lists of the best psychological thrillers. The atmosphere, tension and unexpected ending made it a cult classic, and the phrase “I see dead people” became one of the most famous in the history of cinema.

Rating and recognition

The film received rave reviews from critics and viewers. On IMDb it has 8.2/10, and on Rotten Tomatoes - 86% “fresh”. The film collected more than 670 million dollars at the box office and was nominated for six Oscars, including “Best Picture”.

This film is impossible to forget, and if suddenly you haven’t watched it yet, be sure to add it to your list for the evening. Just be prepared for the fact that after watching it you will want to watch it again!
