MegaCon 2025 attendees in Orlando got an unforgettable surprise when Danny Glover crashed Mel Gibson’s panel on Friday, Feb. 7. The reunion, nearly four decades after Lethal Weapon first hit theaters in 1987, sent fans into a frenzy.
Gibson, 69, was in the middle of discussing his most iconic roles — along with some he turned down, like James Bond and Maximus in Gladiator — when Glover, 78, unexpectedly joined him on stage. The moment was met with a roaring standing ovation, a testament to the duo’s lasting impact.
The Legacy of Lethal Weapon Lives On
Gibson and Glover made cinematic history as LAPD detectives Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh in the Lethal Weapon franchise. The action-packed buddy cop series, spanning four films between 1987 and 1998, became a cultural phenomenon, grossing nearly $1 billion worldwide. Their chemistry was so undeniable that they won the MTV Movie Award for Best On-Screen Duo in 1993 for their performance in Lethal Weapon 3.

The franchise's success even led to a TV adaptation that aired from 2016 to 2019, starring Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans in the iconic roles. But for many fans, no one could replace the original dynamic duo.
A Reunion with More Than Just Nostalgia
This isn't the first time Gibson and Glover have shared the spotlight since their Lethal Weapon days. They previously reunited in 2017 to honor the films’ director, Richard Donner, during an Academy Tribute event. In 2020, producer Dan Lin revealed that Lethal Weapon 5 was close to happening, with Gibson, Glover, and Donner all expected to return. However, Donner’s passing in 2021 put the project on hold. Later reports suggested that Gibson might step in to direct the long-awaited sequel.

Beyond Lethal Weapon, MegaCon 2025 saw several other legendary reunions, including cast members from Twilight, High School Musical, and The Breakfast Club, all reminiscing about their time on set.
But for fans of Riggs and Murtaugh, nothing could top seeing Gibson and Glover back together — proving once again that they’re definitely not too old for this.
