“There are rumblings,” Blunt, 41, shared at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on December 5, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “There is stuff churning around. But I don’t know if I can confirm anything. But we would all be delighted.” Stanley Tucci, who played the stylish and savvy Nigel, has also expressed interest. “If it does happen, I can only say that I’ll be happy,” Tucci, 64, told PEOPLE in October. “I haven’t heard about the plot or anything. I really haven’t.”
Is a Sequel in Development?
In July, reports suggested that Disney is working on a sequel nearly 20 years after the original. Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who adapted Lauren Weisberger’s novel, is reportedly attached, while producer Wendy Finerman and director David Frankel are in talks to return, according to Deadline.
Despite the buzz, not all the cast members are optimistic. Earlier this year, Blunt shared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that the original movie might be better left untouched. “Sometimes things should be cherished and preserved in this bubble, and it’s okay,” she said.
Anne Hathaway, who starred as Andy Sachs, echoed similar sentiments. In April 2024, she told Extra, “I wouldn’t hold out too much hope” for a sequel.
A Legacy Worth Revisiting?
Even with mixed feelings from the cast, the iconic film remains a cultural phenomenon. A mini-reunion at the SAG Awards in February, featuring Blunt, Hathaway, and Meryl Streep, reminded fans of the movie’s lasting impact. Whether the “rumblings” turn into reality or not, The Devil Wears Prada continues to be a beloved classic.
