Set in the timeline between the first and second Inside Out films, Dream Productions focuses on the section of Riley's mind dedicated to creating her dreams. Designed like a film studio, this production company navigates the typical challenges of tight schedules and limited budgets, all aimed at ensuring Riley enjoys restful nights and gains a better understanding of her world.
Similar to Pixar's Monsters at Work series, Dream Productions delves into a different facet of the Inside Out universe, elaborating on a moment briefly depicted in the original film. The tremendous box office success of Inside Out 2 has confirmed the franchise's status as a genuine Pixar hit, while Dream Productions presents fresh storytelling opportunities without the need for a theatrical release. Although it operates on a smaller scale compared to the feature films, Dream Productions serves as the ideal "inbetweenquel" for fans of the beloved series.
Dream Productions premiered all four episodes on December 11, 2024.
Dream Productions Cast Details
Riley's Original Emotions Also Appear
The cast of Inside Out 2 was significantly larger than that of its predecessor, but only Riley's classic emotions feature in Dream Productions, as the series is set before the events of the sequel. Kensington Tallman reprises her role as Riley, joined by Amy Poehler (Joy), Phyllis Smith (Sadness), Lewis Black (Anger), Tony Hale (Fear), and Liza Lapira (Disgust), all voicing Riley's original emotions.
While many familiar characters return, the majority of the show's cast consists of new characters. The series centers around Paula Pell's character, Paula Persimmon, the determined director of Dream Productions, alongside Xeni, an aspiring young dream maker portrayed by Richard Ayoade.
Just a few weeks before the show's debut, Disney revealed a full trailer for Dream Productions which finally revealed a few more key details about the miniseries. After a short intro by Joy, the trailer then shifts to the Dream Productions backlot where director Paula Persimmon struggles to keep things fresh and new. Various characters are interviewed, including the ambitious Xeni, before it's revealed that Paula will get demoted unless she can deliver the best dream ever.
