In the mid-2000s, David Letterman made a joke about Quentin Tarantino on his “Late night show”.
During one of the episodes, Letterman shared a humorous anecdote about a guest who claimed to be dating Quentin Tarantino, much to his surprise. The guest, who was a famous star, insisted that she was indeed in a relationship with the acclaimed director. Letterman jokingly expressed disbelief, comparing Tarantino to a "movie store nerd". He playfully teased the idea of a glamorous movie star being romantically involved with someone he perceived as a "squirrely guy."
The director was so offended that he called Letterman and threatened to fly to New York to kill him. Letterman jokingly offered to buy Tarantino a ticket and suggested they settle their differences with a duel. To everyone’s surprise Tarantino’s weapon of choice were baseball bats.
Tarantino never mentioned the incident again. In 2009, he appeared on Letterman's show to promote "Inglourious Basterds". Letterman visited him in the dressing room and reminded him of the incident. Tarantino reluctantly apologized.
