Stephen King has always been particular about the adaptations of his works — he famously disliked even the cult classic The Shining.
However, some projects do earn his approval, and the acclaimed author has already praised the upcoming TV series based on his legendary The Dark Tower novels.
The Dark Tower TV Series: What We Know So Far
Director Mike Flanagan is no stranger to King’s stories. He previously adapted Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game for the screen, and audiences will soon see his take on The Life of Chuck.
Flanagan’s production company has already secured the rights to adapt The Dark Tower series. The saga consists of seven books, chronicling the adventures of Roland Deschain.

Unlike many other showrunners, Flanagan has decided against hiring additional screenwriters or producers, stating that he will personally oversee the project. His vision for the show includes at least five seasons. While the release date remains unconfirmed, Flanagan initially planned to collaborate with Netflix, but ultimately chose Amazon as the platform for the series.
Stephen King's Thoughts on the New Dark Tower Adaptation
The author has already reviewed preliminary plans for the first season, as well as script drafts and presentation materials — and he is impressed.
"It all starts exactly as it should. The pacing is perfect, and everything is shaping up beautifully," King praised in an interview.
The Dark Tower saga has been adapted before. In 2017, a film starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey hit theaters, but it failed to impress, receiving poor reviews and a 5.8 rating.

With Flanagan at the helm and King’s approval already secured, fans are hopeful that this time, The Dark Tower will finally get the adaptation it deserves.
