Filming for the third season of House of the Dragon has not yet begun, but the first spoilers about its ending have already surfaced online. An insider known as Wake the Dragon claims that the showrunners have decided to drastically deviate from George R.R. Martin’s original book. This could be a real shock for fans.
Goodbye, Dragonstone?
According to the leak, instead of Alicent fleeing to Dragonstone with Rhaenyra, as expected from the books, the queen will escape to Yi Ti — the mysterious eastern lands of Westeros. Furthermore, she will reportedly be accompanied by the young heir Jaehaera. The showrunners allegedly want to delve deeper into the mythology of the Great Empire of the Dawn and its supposed connection to House Hightower.
What Is Yi Ti?
Yi Ti is one of the most exotic and mysterious locations in George R.R. Martin’s world. Known as the Golden Empire of Yi Ti, this region is famous for its ancient history and incredible cultural diversity. It features jungles, steppes, rainforests, and drying seas, and Yi Ti's roads are second only to Valyrian ones in quality.
These lands are steeped in myths, including legends about the Shadow Lands, basilisks, and ancient peoples who once inhabited the region.
Another surprising detail is that, according to the insider, part of the filming for the third season will take place in Japan. This decision was reportedly made to create a unique "eastern" atmosphere that aligns with the spirit of Yi Ti.
Should the Leak Be Trusted?
As always, such insider 'leaks' should be taken with a grain of salt. However, if the information proves true, the third season promises to be not only spectacular but also full of surprises. Moving the action to Yi Ti could give fans an entirely new perspective on the familiar universe.
