Season 3 of 'House of the Dragon' Introduce Three New Characters — One of Them Changes the Course of the War, Just Like in the Book

Still from the series 'House of the Dragon'

The premiere is expected no earlier than summer 2026.

Season 3 of House of the Dragon promises to finally move the plot forward — and that’s not just a figure of speech. Fans have been waiting for this moment since the very first episode of Season 2. The creators of the show, an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, have long kept viewers away from the central conflict. But now they promise: it’s time to introduce the one who will shift the balance.

This refers to Prince Daeron Targaryen — the youngest son of Viserys I and Queen Alicent. In the book, his return is the trigger for the bloody war between the two branches of the dynasty. He is a character with a unique path: raised far from his family, uninvolved in their schemes, and now forced to choose a side. And according to showrunner Ryan Condal, that choice will change everything.

"We wanted his arrival to be an event," Condal explained. "That’s why he wasn’t mentioned in either the first or the second season. We’re introducing him at the right moment — and it will be powerful." He didn’t reveal more details, but made it clear that Daeron’s arc will be compelling even for those who’ve read the novel.

House of the Dragon

And he’s not the only new blood in the series. Two more characters will debut in Season 3. Lord Ormund Hightower, the queen’s cousin, will be played by James Norton — best known to viewers for his role as Bolkonsky in War & Peace. And the warrior Roddy Dustin, who will take sides in the conflict, will be portrayed by Tommy Flanagan, known from Sons of Anarchy.

The premiere is expected no earlier than summer 2026. The date has not yet been announced, but filming is already underway — and that means the true Targaryen war is about to emerge from the shadows.
