Not Jules or the Black Mamba: The Terrifying Movie Character Tarantino Is Most Proud Of

The main characters in two films by Quentin Tarantino

He killed people with a particular zeal, evoking both disgust and admiration from viewers.

Back in 2016 at the Jerusalem Film Festival, Quentin Tarantino revealed the name of his favorite character. Despite previously claiming to love all his characters equally, the iconic director admitted that his favorite is the most despicable figure in Inglourious Basterds. This character killed far more people than Jules from Pulp Fiction and the Black Mamba from Kill Bill combined.

The screenwriter’s favorite is Hans Landa, brilliantly portrayed by Christoph Waltz.

"Landa is the best character I’ve ever written and possibly the best I’ll ever write," Tarantino declared.

Christoph Waltz performed his role brilliantly

The director also expressed his admiration for the linguistic skills of the character, who is capable of communicating in many languages. According to Tarantino, Landa is likely the only Nazi in cinematic history who is fluent in Yiddish.

To be fair, Tarantino also highlighted Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction as another favorite. Samuel L. Jackson’s character was also a brilliant speaker, capable of quoting the Bible and delivering sharp-tongued profanity.

It’s worth noting that Christoph Waltz won two Academy Awards for his work with Tarantino. While Tarantino doesn’t openly name his favorites, it’s safe to say that the Austrian actor is among them. After all, it was Tarantino who gave Waltz the roles that earned him such high praise from critics and audiences alike.
