It looks like Batman 2 with Robert Pattinson is at risk of losing the atmosphere that made the original film so popular. The Spanish Warner Bros. website has changed the description of the project, now the second film is listed in the genres "science fiction" and "fantasy".
Instead of a dark detective story, now it's fantasy
This may mean that the new story will be much larger, more spectacular, but also less realistic. But it was precisely for its dark earthiness, cold style and noir detective structure that the first Batman (2022) gathered an army of devoted fans.
Many compared the story of the next Bruce Wayne with classic thrillers like Seven or Zodiac, appreciated for the rejection of typical superhero tricks and effects. The sequel will go a different way, the search for a maniac is no longer in fashion.
What will Batman 2 be like
We will have to wait a long time for the sequel, Robert Pattinson said that filming will start at the end of 2025, and the premiere is scheduled for October 1, 2027. Judging by the first reports from insiders, the opponent of the avenger in a bat suit will be Mister Freeze. Considering that in the comics he walked around in a cryogenic suit, froze people alive and tried to save his wife, the story will clearly have a fantastic bias.
It is unclear whether James Gunn, who became the creative curator of all DC projects, influenced the franchise or whether Matt Reeves himself planned to expand the universe with the help of fantasy. But it is already clear: the second part will most likely become visually brighter, but it is unlikely to be as atmospheric.
