2025 has just begun, but the film industry is already gearing up for major premieres scheduled for the next 12 months — including on streaming platforms. In this selection, we present five films that cinema lovers are eagerly anticipating on Netflix.
Jay Kelly
A comedy-drama by Noah Baumbach, who directed the hit Marriage Story a few years ago, will tell the story of "adulting," but the other plot details are still under wraps. The main roles in the film are played by George Clooney, Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, and Billy Crudup.
Frankenstein
A reimagining of Mary Shelley's gothic novel, fans of Guillermo del Toro added this film to their personal list of most anticipated movies last year when news about the filming process kept surfacing online. Even those who are not particularly interested in the work of the Mexican director will likely be drawn to Frankenstein — in addition to being an adaptation of the world-famous novel, the film boasts a truly star-studded cast, including Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz.
Knives Out: Wake Up, Dead Man
The sequel to the sensational detective drama Knives Out, which became a global hit back in 2019, will be the third installment in the franchise featuring Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc. While the plot details of the film are still under wraps, it is known that Knives Out: Wake Up, Dead Man has seemingly assembled the most star-studded cast of the upcoming year — alongside Craig, the film features Kerry Washington, Kayli Spaney, Josh O'Connor, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Andrew Scott, and Glenn Close.
Peaky Blinders
Rumors that Netflix would not abandon Peaky Blinders after the final sixth season circulated online for several years, but only last year did the streaming service confirm the development of a feature film, the plot of which will unfold after the events of the show's finale. It is expected that almost all of the leading actors will return to their roles, including Cillian Murphy, but new faces will also join the cast — such as Barry Keoghan, Tim Roth, and Rebecca Ferguson.
RIP
2025 will be the year of another reunion of long-time Hollywood friends Ben Affleck and Matt Damon — the actors have collaborated once again and starred in a crime thriller that currently has no official title. Little is known about the plot so far — only that it will revolve around a group of police officers who discover millions of dollars in an empty house, which will subsequently lead each of them to question whether they can trust their colleagues.
