After nearly three decades, Adam Sandler’s iconic character, Happy Gilmore, is stepping back onto the green. Netflix has officially released the first teaser trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 comedy classic.
The original film followed Gilmore, a failed hockey player who unexpectedly became a golf sensation, shaking up the sport’s traditional scene. This time around, the sequel sees him making a long-awaited return after years away from the game. "I haven’t swung a club in years," Gilmore says in the teaser, setting up his comeback against some of today’s biggest sports stars.
Cameos Galore: A Star-Studded Sequel
Fans of the original will be thrilled to see Julie Bowen reprising her role as Virginia Venit, with her character reminding Gilmore, "We’re not done with golf. Let them see the Happy I fell in love with." But what really has people talking is the impressive lineup of cameos. The film is packed with celebrity appearances, featuring Eminem,Travis Kelce, Bad Bunny and Ben Stiller — who is likely reprising his uncredited role as Hal from the first movie. It also includes real-life golf superstars like Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau, adding an extra layer of authenticity to the film.
To make the golf scenes feel more genuine, Netflix partnered with Pro Shop Studios, a production company that specializes in sports authenticity. Chad Mumm, the studio’s founder, explained that after working on Sandler’s basketball film Hustle, the team wanted to bring the same level of realism to Happy Gilmore 2.
"Happy Madison reached out to us about helping to get a bunch of golfers to come to the movie and make the golf a lot more authentic," Mumm shared with The Hollywood Reporter. "They wanted the golf to feel really real, and they wanted a lot of present-day and historical pro golfers to come and make cameos in the film."
The film will premiere on Netflix on July 25, bringing Sandler’s beloved character back to the fairway for another round of outrageous antics.
