Good news for Chronicles of Narnia fans: Netflix is set to outpace Disney. While Disney has only produced three adaptations of the saga based on the seven books, Netflix has much bigger plans. All hopes are pinned on Greta Gerwig, who is set to direct the upcoming film.
Although Gerwig hasn't started filming yet, Netflix is already confident in the film's success and hints that it will be the beginning of a new franchise. According to a recent report from Deadline, IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond revealed that Netflix plans to expand its new Chronicles of Narnia movie into an eight-film franchise. Gelfond disclosed this during IMAX's earnings call, aiming to impress Wall Street investors.
He stated, "This was a really great movie for us because I think there are like eight movies planned."
Filming for the first installment is scheduled to begin in July 2025. The film is set to debut exclusively in IMAX theaters for a four-week run starting on Thanksgiving Day 2026, with a streaming release on Netflix scheduled for Christmas 2026.
