What wouldn’t one do to fully immerse in a role? Jeremy Strong shows just how extreme and dangerous the process can be in a film with the Affleck brothers.
The Affleck brothers and Jeremy Strong recently appeared in a Dunkin' Donuts commercial called The Bean Method. In the 45-second ad, set before the Super Bowl, Casey and Ben go to Strong's dressing room to tell him it's time to start shooting. They know he's using a strange acting method, but nothing prepares them for what they find.
When they enter, they see Strong fully submerged in a huge tank of coffee beans. He rises out like Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now, works on his character with the Affleck brothers, and then tells them he just needs three more hours.
The actor’s character in this short commercial seems to resonate with his own personality. Strong is widely famous for his extreme method acting hacks. The most famous example, and the one that earned him the label of ‘method actor,’ was for the hit HBO series, Succession, in which he played Kendall Roy.
In a 2021 interview with The New Yorker, Strong said, “I think you have to go through whatever the ordeal is that the character has to go through.” Strong then discussed that process in more detail, saying he would isolate himself from his cast mates, and would often refuse to rehearse.
