A24 has unveiled the trailer for the black fantasy comedy Death of a Unicorn. The lead roles are played by Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man). The screenplay and direction are by debutant Alex Sharafman. The premiere is set for spring 2025, though the exact date has not yet been announced.
The plot centers around a girl named Riley (Ortega) and her father Elliot (Rudd), who are driving to a country house to spend the weekend. On their way, they accidentally hit and kill a unicorn and decide to take the corpse with them. Eventually, a billionaire (Richard E. Grant), for whom Elliot works, learns about what happened. It turns out that the blood and powdered horn of the legendary creature possess miraculous properties, including curing cancer. The magnate attempts to use this to his advantage.
The trailer reveals that the slain unicorn is not the only one of its kind, as another, much more ferocious creature begins to hunt the protagonists.
The cast also includes Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, Sunita Mani, Anthony Carrigan, Steve Park, Jessica Hynes, and others. The producer team features Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar). The soundtrack was composed by John Carpenter (Halloween, The Thing), his son Cody, and Daniel A. Davis.
