Movie adaptation enthusiasts, gather round: Hollywood has once again seized the trend of adapting the most popular novels of recent years — which means that next year we will see plenty of stories brought from the pages of books to the big screens. In this selection, we present the most anticipated adaptations set to be released in 2025.
Missing You, Harlan Coben
The main thing is that filmmakers don't mess up: 5 adaptations we are looking forward to in 2025. Riding the wave of success from previous adaptations of Coben's works, The Stranger and Fool Me Once, Netflix is unlikely to stop extending its deal with the author in the coming years — at least, the streaming service's upcoming plans include the release of the adaptation of the novel Missing You. The series will premiere on Netflix on January 1 and will tell the story of detective Kat Donovan, who is shocked to find the profile of her long-missing boyfriend on a dating app.
Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, Helen Fielding
The fourth installment will be the concluding chapter of the Bridget Jones's Diary franchise, which began back in 2001. Renée Zellweger will return to the role of Bridget, who is now a single mother following the sudden death of Mark Darcy and is determined to try her luck in love once again. Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will be released in theaters worldwide on February 14, 2025.
I Know What You Did Last Summer, Lois Duncan
This new adaptation will be a reboot of the hit thriller from 1997 starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Freddie Prinze Jr. The plot centers around a group of graduates who, after a fun night by the sea, are driving home and accidentally hit a mysterious person who appears on the road. The friends decide to keep the incident a secret, but a year later, they receive a mysterious letter indicating that someone else knows about their secret. The film is set to be released in theaters on July 18, 2025.
The Running Man, Stephen King
The new dystopian film by Edgar Wright will be the second adaptation of King's science fiction novel and will tell the story of Ben Richards, who is forced to participate in a brutal reality show to earn money for his seriously ill daughter's treatment. The situation is complicated by the fact that specially hired people are hunting Richards at the same time. Glen Powell plays the lead role in the film, but there is currently no exact release date for The Running Man.
The Midnight Library, Matt Haig
Almost nothing is known about the upcoming adaptation, except that StudioCanal has officially approved its development, and the project is set to be released in 2025. The series will be based on The Midnight Library, which revolves around Nora Seed—after attempting to take her own life, the girl finds herself in the Midnight Library, where a whole list of books will predict her future depending on the choices she makes.
