Netflix has officially set a theatrical release for Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia. The film will debut globally in IMAX on November 26, 2026, just in time for Thanksgiving, before streaming on Netflix on Christmas Day.
While reports differ on the length of the theatrical run — Deadline suggests two weeks, while Matt Belloni of Puck claims it will be four weeks across 90 countries — what’s confirmed is that the film will play on over 1,000 IMAX screens. According to Deadline, Gerwig’s vision promises a "very new take" on the beloved franchise.
This deal is more favorable than the brief theatrical window Netflix gave Rian Johnson’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in 2022, which had just a five-day release before heading to streaming. However, it doesn’t compare to the wide release Gerwig’s Barbie received in the summer of 2023, following its monumental cultural impact.
What’s Next for Narnia?
Production on Narnia is expected to begin this year, though Netflix has yet to announce a cast or confirm which of C.S. Lewis’s stories will be adapted. Actor Jason Isaacs recently hinted in an interview with The Week that one of the films might be based on The Magician’s Nephew.
Fans will have to wait to see how Gerwig reimagines the classic tales, but her proven ability to bring fresh perspectives to iconic material promises an intriguing take on Lewis’s fantasy world.
