Ridley Scott's Gladiator III, revealing that the project is no longer in "active development" but has now scheduled a shoot for 2026 in Malta and Morocco.
It was previously confirmed that a script for Gladiator III was in the works, with Paul Mescal set to star. Scott had previously asserted that the film was "certainly happening" and dismissed concerns about the box office performance of Gladiator II, which has grossed $370M against $250M budget.
This news regarding Gladiator III may indicate that Scott's Bee Gees biopic has been put on hold, as he had previously mentioned that studio interference had stalled its development, stating, "I stepped away."
In the meantime, Scott's next project is the post-apocalyptic sci-fi film The Dog Stars, which is currently seeking a new lead after Paul Mescal exited the role due to his commitments to Sam Mendes' Beatles film. An early 2025 shoot is still planned for this project.
