Close your eyes and imagine: the huge cinema screen, the disturbing music of Ramin Javadi, the credits with dragon symbols — and now the audience is immersed in Westeros again, but now in a format that they have been waiting for for years. Warner Bros. Studio I finally decided that Game of Thrones deserved a cinematic version of the fight for the Iron Throne.
A movie? Seriously?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has been quietly but confidently developing at least one feature film based on the George Martin universe since 2024. Last fall, the project was at its earliest stage: there is no script, no director, no cast. But the fact that Warner Bros. Thinking about the big screen is already intriguing.
Especially if you remember that back in 2014, Martin hinted at possible film adaptations, and David Benioff and Dan Weiss wanted to complete the series with a trilogy of films instead of the eighth season. HBO was fiercely opposed at the time, saying that prestigious TV should remain prestigious TV. But times are changing.
Why now?
The studio was clearly inspired by the success of the crossovers: Penguin after Batman, Dune: The Prophecy against the background of Villeneuve's films, the new Harry Potter"in the form of a TV series. Even The Lord of the Rings is now multiplying both on screens and on streaming services. So the idea of "either movies or TV" came to naught faster than the reign of King Tommen I Baratheon.
The main question is, what will the film be about? So far, all the spin-offs (House of the Dragon, the upcoming Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) explore the past of Westeros. But there is still a huge "after" — the very era where (spoiler!) Bran is on the throne, Jon Snow is behind the Wall, and the Dragon is flying with Daenerys' body to unknown distances. Maybe that's what the plot will be?
George Martin is rumored to be involved in the process, which means there's a chance the film version won't repeat the sad experience of season eight. It remains to wait — and hope that Warner Bros. He won't entrust the script to someone who "just forgot" about the existence of the Iron Fleet.
