George Martin Could Have Finished 'A Game of Thrones' a Long Time Ago — Everything is Ruined by the Rule he Stubbornly Adheres To

The writer prefers not to seek inspiration from fan ideas—and that's a mistake.

With each passing year, fans' faith that George Martin will eventually release the remaining parts of 'A Song of Ice and Fire' diminishes, while questions about why this is happening only increase. The epic tale of the political games in Westeros has remained unfinished for over 10 years, but the writer himself seems to have found an explanation for his procrastination—and fans will likely be dissatisfied once again.

According to the writer himself, he fundamentally avoids any situations that could potentially draw him into the whirlpool of fan ideas for the continuation—and therefore he has stopped reading forums about Game of Thrones, although he indulged in this in the distant 90s. Martin admitted that he does not want to take the risk of finding out whether fans of the books and the show have ideas for new plot twists that are better than his own—precisely because of the lack of his own thoughts on a worthy conclusion to the series, the writer is delaying the writing of the final parts.

George Martin

'A Song of Ice and Fire' could have been completed by now—but Martin's decision certainly deserves respect.

Despite all the complaints that fans have directed at the writer over the years, the ironclad rule that Martin has adhered to all this time speaks to him as a true professional in his field. Many would agree that the constraints he has imposed on himself can indeed help preserve the authenticity of his works, and the desires of fans will certainly not influence the outcome of events in 'A Song of Ice and Fire'.

However, the reason for the prolonged release of the final chapters lies not only in this—Hollywood is also to blame for the situation with 'A Song of Ice and Fire'. We have already discussed the role the film industry played in Martin's decision to wait for the finale.
