From the Former Night King to the Future of Westeros: Three Mistakes of 'Game of Thrones' That Can Only be Corrected by the Spin-Off About Jon Snow

Stills from the series 'Game of Thrones'

The creators of the series have a chance to fix a lot.

The showrunners of Game of Thrones seem to be unsure about what to do with the Jon Snow series — sometimes announcing it, then canceling it, and hinting that they might 'try again' in the near future. The chances of the spin-off seeing the light of day are increasing, and the main thing is that Kit Harington, is ready to shoot—so let's figure out what it should be about.

The finale of Game of Thrones in 2019 was a real disappointment for many. Despite strong early seasons, the final episodes left viewers with bitterness due to hasty decisions, unexplained plot twists, and disappointing character arcs. There are three main points that Jon Snow and his new project need to address.

A New Westeros: More Details

In the finale of Game of Thrones, Sansa Stark became the Queen in the North, while Bran Stark ascended to the Iron Throne, ruling over the Six Kingdoms. These events were meant to be significant for the new order in Westeros, but the show did not give enough attention to these important changes.

Sansa Stark

Sansa's acceptance of the North's independence and Bran's coronation were presented too quickly and without details on how this new political landscape would function. A spin-off about Jon Snow is perfectly suited to correct this mistake. Jon, as someone who has been tied to the fate of Westeros, could return from the North and see how everything has changed after Daenerys's demise and the fall of the Iron Throne.

This transitional period could be explored in detail, showing how the major houses adapt to the new conditions and how the division of Westeros into two parts affects the political situation. This would give viewers a better understanding of what the new future for the kingdoms will look like.

The White Walkers deserve more attention.

From the very first episode, viewers are introduced to the White Walkers — creatures that pose the greatest threat to Westeros. Their power and danger were felt as the plot progressed, and scenes such as the battle at Hardhome emphasized that they could annihilate all living things. However, in the series finale, the White Walkers were essentially reduced to nothing — The Night King was killed with a knife thrust, and all of this happened without any clear explanation of how they came to be and what motivated them.

White Walkers

If the spin-off about Jon Snow does indeed come to fruition, it could be an opportunity to clarify the story of the White Walkers. Perhaps it would be worth dedicating a few episodes to exploring where they came from, what drives them, and why they chose to invade Westeros.

This would not only wrap up their storyline but also portray the Night King as the genuine threat he was meant to be throughout the series.

The Death of Daenerys Targaryen: An Unspoken Tragedy

One of the most controversial and poorly thought-out moments in the finale of Game of Thrones was the death of Daenerys Targaryen. Initially, her character was portrayed as a symbol of freedom and justice, but then, without any signs of her moral decline, she transforms into a tyrant, ultimately leading to her demise at the hands of Jon Snow.

Death of Daenerys Targaryen

For many fans, Daenerys was a beloved character, and her death, as well as the development of her character, was left inadequately explained.

Although Daenerys will not return in the series, the spin-off could provide an opportunity for a deeper exploration of her tragic fate. Jon Snow's story may be significantly tied to the consequences of Daenerys's murder, and the spin-off could depict how this event affected his moral state and how the people around him perceive his actions.

Additionally, through flashbacks or visions, the spin-off could explore the final days of the Targaryens and more fully reveal the reasons behind her downfall. This would allow viewers to see what happened to their favorite character and slightly 'correct' the finale.
