Eddie Redmayne, fresh off the success of Peacock's acclaimed series 'Day of the Jackal,' has joined Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Olsen in Warner Bros. Pictures' 'Panic Carefully.'
While specific plot and character details remain under wraps, the movie is described as a paranoid thriller inspired by 'Silence of the Lambs,' centering on the pursuit of a cyber terrorist. The project also reunites Esmail with Roberts after their collaboration on the Netflix success 'Leave the World Behind.'
Esmail and Chad Hamilton are producing the film under Esmail Corp., alongside Scott Stuber, Roberts, Marisa Yeres Gill, and Lisa Gillan. Warner Bros. executives Kevin McCormick and Chrystal Li are overseeing the project.
The film landed at Warner Bros. following a highly competitive bidding war earlier this year. A key factor in securing the project was the studio’s commitment to a theatrical release, an increasingly important consideration for filmmakers in the current industry climate.
Redmayne’s performance in the 'Jackal' series, where he stars opposite Lashana Lynch, has been a surprise success with both critics and audiences since its debut in November. The series ranked No. 1 on Peacock’s Top 10 TV shows and placed in the Top 5 streaming originals in the U.S. during its premiere week. As one of the show’s executive producers, Redmayne earned Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice nominations for his role. The show’s popularity has already led to a renewal for a second season.
Recently, Redmayne returned to Broadway to reprise his role as the Emcee in 'Cabaret,' earning a Tony nomination for Best Lead Actor in a Musical. This followed his performance in the 2022 West End revival, which he spearheaded and for which he won the Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical.
Redmayne, an Academy Award winner for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in 'The Theory of Everything,' is represented by CAA, United Agents, and Jackoway Tyerman.
