Victoria Beckham, known for her transformation from Spice Girl to fashion mogul, is set to star in her own Netflix documentary series. However, her husband, David Beckham, recently revealed on the Today show that convincing her to participate was no small feat.
"She wasn’t the easiest to convince," David admitted to co-anchors Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin. Despite her initial reluctance, David was confident Victoria would shine, especially after her standout appearance in his own Emmy-winning docuseries, Beckham. "In my opinion, she was the star of mine," he said. "So I thought, 'This is the opportunity.'"
A Look Into Victoria’s World
The upcoming series will delve into Victoria’s successful career as a designer and businesswoman, showcasing the 18 years of dedication she’s poured into her eponymous fashion and beauty brand. "She’s unbelievably hard-working, and no one gets to see that," David shared. "I convinced her to let people actually see what she does every day and what goes into her business. She’s a very clever and hard-working lady."
Fans can also expect glimpses into the couple’s personal life, including their marriage and family dynamics with their four children: Brooklyn (25), Romeo (22), Cruz (19), and Harper (13). Whether the series will feature more lighthearted moments, like the viral family dance scene from Beckham, remains to be seen. David reflected on that memorable moment: "[It] just happened last second. The kids were embarrassed, but the song meant something to us, so we danced."
Why This Documentary Matters
For David, creating his own series was a reflective and therapeutic experience. "I never really look back at my career,” he said. “It was a moment I could celebrate that and talk about things I’ve never spoken about before." He hopes Victoria’s journey will offer her the same opportunity.
Victoria herself admitted that stepping into the world of documentary filming was initially outside her comfort zone. In a January 2024 interview with the Financial Times, she described the experience of filming alongside her husband for Beckham as "quite liberating."
"Usually, when I did my filming, I would be controlling," Victoria said. "But this was very much about David, so I took the approach of, 'I’m just going to be very easy-going here.'" Reflecting on the public’s response, she added, "People come up and say, 'We love the documentary.' Let me tell you … They used to be scared to approach."
