Cannes Film Festival 2025: Star-Studded Lineup and New Voices Compete for Palme d’Or

Legion-Media — Iris Knobloch and Thierry Fremaux unveil Cannes 2025 line-up

The festival will run from May 13 to 24 and promises a significant Hollywood presence.

The 2025 Cannes Film Festival is set to be a glamorous affair, featuring films from renowned directors like Wes Anderson, Richard Linklater, Ari Aster, Julia Ducournau, and Kelly Reichardt competing for the prestigious Palme d’Or.

Tom Cruise will return to the Croisette with Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, debuting out of competition. Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest, starring Denzel Washington, will also screen out of competition after Lee announced it on Instagram. Scarlett Johansson will premiere her directorial debut, Eleanor the Great, in the Un Certain Regard section, alongside Harris Dickinson’s first film as a director, Urchin.

Bono is expected to attend for the first time with his documentary Bono: Stories of Surrender. The festival will open with the French comedy-drama Leave One Day (Partir un Jour), directed by Amélie Bonnin. Artistic director Thierry Fremaux noted that this year saw a record 2,909 submissions, with 32% of films directed by women.

Fremaux emphasized that this year’s selections reflect a world filled with both violence and love. Juliette Binoche will preside over the jury, while Robert De Niro will receive an honorary Palme d’Or.
