Bonnie Wright Passes the Wand: Her Message to 'Harry Potter's' Future Ginny

Still from the film 'Harry Potter'

A new Weasley rises — this time, with her own fire.

There’s a new Ginny Weasley on the horizon — and Bonnie Wright couldn’t be more supportive. But don’t expect a step-by-step spellbook on how to play her. Wright’s advice? Trust your own magic.

Speaking to People at New York’s Lyric Theater, the original Ginny kept it simple and sincere.

"I think every actor stepping into all the roles, I hope, really go from the book and they take their interpretation of the characters from the book as the original source of material. And I just hope that they do what they wanna do and they make their character who they envision Ginny to be."

No pressure to imitate. No need to match a moment from two decades ago. Just the freedom to reimagine Ginny — fierce, fiery, and full of surprises — for a new generation.

Wright knows what it’s like to step into something massive and undefined. She was only nine when she joined the Harry Potter films — wide-eyed, unpolished, and uncertain. But she’s not trading that chaos for clarity.

"Honestly, I don't think I would say anything," she said when asked what advice she’d give her younger self. "I think the not knowing and the wonder and the nervousness and the excitement and the unknown is what gives you that drive and energy."

And now, she’s passing that same untamed energy forward. With grace and generosity, Bonnie Wright is reminding future witches and wizards that you don’t need to be perfect — just present. The rest will find its way.
