Are There Live-Action Episodes in 'Love, Death & Robots'? You Might Be Surprised — Yes

Elly Condron

And they didn’t cast just anyone, but some big names!

Millions of viewers around the world adore Love and Death for its visual variety, bold storytelling, and unexpected twists. But few have stopped to wonder: have there ever been real live actors in this animated masterpiece?

Yes — and such episodes are rare gems. The first instance appeared back in season one, in the episode Ice Age, which featured real-life actors. And a few years later, in season four, another live-action episode appeared, with the bold title Super Super Super. It starred New Zealand comedian Rhys Darby (yes, the one from Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) and Graham McTavish (the dwarf Dwalin in The Hobbit and Dijkstra in The Witcher).

On screen, it’s a bizarre conversation between a priest and an alien about how a dolphin became the Messiah. Yes, it sounds absurd. And yes, the director is none other than Tim Miller himself, co-creator of the series and director of Deadpool.

Love, Death & Robots

Super Super Super turned out eccentric, at times ridiculous, but unmistakable in spirit. It’s not a philosophical parable like The Drowned Giant, but more of a short joke teetering on the edge of madness. But isn’t that exactly why we love this series?
