Amy Adams may dazzle on the red carpet, but off it, she keeps things simple. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the actress, 50, revealed that her 14-year-old daughter Aviana once asked her to forgo makeup in everyday life.
'She didn’t like me wearing makeup', Adams recalls. ' She said, ‘I just want you to look like Mom, not Amy Adams.' And I said, 'You got it.' For years, Adams honored her daughter’s request, keeping her look natural whenever they were out together. ' I mean, I snuck in a little mascara,' she admits with a laugh, ' but other than that, I kept it bare because she wanted me to just be Mom.'
Lately, Aviana has taken on the role of fashion advisor, nudging her mom to rethink her go-to wardrobe choices. ' I’m usually the least manicured person in my house,' says Adams. ' But recently, per my daughter’s suggestion, I’m trying to step up my style. She told me, 'You can’t wear workout clothes if you’re not working out, Mom. You can’t just do the leisure part of athleisure,' she adds with a laugh.

At home with her husband Darren Le Gallo and Aviana, Adams says she’s always the last one to get ready. ' I help my daughter get ready, and my husband gets ready,' she shares. ' I’m usually running around, braiding her hair or finding her things, and then I just throw my own look together. Most of the time, it’s a ponytail and maybe a hat. It’s been that way since she was born.'
In September, the family attended the Toronto International Film Festival for the premiere of Nightbitch, marking Aviana’s first time on the red carpet. ' It was amazing to share that with her,' Adams says proudly. ' I just love her.'
Adams also revealed how her daughter supported her during the event. ' I get really nervous about public speaking, and she’s never seen me in that state. She said, ‘Mom, you do this all the time. You’ve got this!’ It was so sweet.'
During a recent appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark on December 6, Adams reflected on whether her daughter might pursue acting. ' If it’s something that feeds her soul and she loves it, I’ll support her,' she said. ' But for now, she has no interest.'
