With Amazon now at the helm of the James Bond franchise, speculation is heating up over who will direct the next installment. According to a new report from The Wrap, industry insiders believe there’s only one way for Amazon to maintain the franchise’s legacy: they must hire Christopher Nolan.
Is Christopher Nolan Finally Getting His Bond Movie?
Nolan has never shied away from his admiration for the Bond franchise. In a 2023 episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he openly discussed how much the classic spy films have influenced his own work. "The influence of those movies in my filmography is embarrassingly apparent. I love the films. You know, it would be an amazing privilege to do one" he said.
A top franchise producer quoted by The Wrap believes that hiring a director of Nolan’s caliber is Amazon’s best move to secure the franchise’s future:
"If Amazon wants to preserve the legacy, they should do everything possible to get Chris Nolan and wait for him as long as needed."

Another high-level source suggests that talks between Amazon/MGM and Nolan may have already started, citing a "strong mutual desire" to make it happen.
What’s Stopping Nolan From Directing Bond?
This isn’t the first time Christopher Nolan has been in discussions to direct a Bond film. Years ago, he had meetings with longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, pitching an ambitious plan to direct two back-to-back Bond films set in the 1960s. However, negotiations fell through due to creative control issues — Nolan wanted full autonomy, something Broccoli was unwilling to grant.
A similar conflict led to Danny Boyle’s departure from a planned Bond installment due to "creative differences." If Amazon and MGM truly want Nolan to take over, they may need to offer him complete control, including final cut rights.
Will Amazon Make the Deal Happen?
With Daniel Craig’s departure and the need for a fresh creative vision, Amazon is facing a crucial turning point for the Bond franchise. If they’re serious about making Bond a prestige blockbuster series, securing Christopher Nolan might be their best bet.

While there is no official confirmation of talks, industry insiders seem convinced that Amazon has already reached out. Whether Nolan agrees will likely come down to one thing: will he be granted the creative freedom he demands?
