After 80 Million Views, 'Road House' Sequel Moves Forward With Gyllenhaal and Ritchie

Still from the film 'Road House'

Director change and third collaboration mark sequel’s next chapter.

Following its record-breaking debut on Prime Video, Road House is officially getting a sequel — and this time, with Guy Ritchie at the helm. Jake Gyllenhaal will reprise his role as Dalton, the ex-UFC fighter turned roadhouse bouncer, in what marks the actor’s third collaboration with Ritchie and their second for Amazon MGM Studios.

Plot details remain tightly guarded, but expectations are high after the reboot attracted 80 million viewers in just eight weeks, making it Amazon’s most-watched original film to date.

The original 2024 film, a reimagining of the 1989 cult classic, featured Gyllenhaal alongside real-life MMA fighter Conor McGregor in his acting debut. It found unexpected success as a slick, tongue-in-cheek action movie with a streaming-first release — a decision that frustrated previous director Doug Liman, who had envisioned a theatrical rollout. Ritchie now steps in to direct the sequel, bringing his signature kinetic style and flair for chaos to the franchise.

Screenwriter Will Beall (Bad Boys: Ride or Die) is penning the script, with production backed by Atlas Entertainment, Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories, and executive producer Ivan Atkinson. Gyllenhaal also returns as a producer, continuing his recent trend of taking creative control on projects.

Road House

With Ritchie currently riding a prolific streak — including recent hits like The Covenant, Netflix’s The Gentlemen spinoff, and the upcoming Fountain of Youth — his involvement signals a bold, stylish turn for the sequel. Whether Road House 2 will once again kick down the doors of streaming records remains to be seen, but the bar-room brawling is far from over.
