The first footage from the Marvel project Thunderbolts has already been released, which is slightly different from previous ones. The goal was to create something new and not repeat what’s been done before, as confirmed by both the director of the film Jake Schreier and the lead actress, Florence Pugh.
In an interview with Empire, Florence Pugh laughs, "It ended up becoming this quite badass indie, A24-feeling assassin movie with Marvel superheroes," as she reprises her role as the Widow-trained assassin Yelena Belova, previously seen in Black Widow and Hawkeye.
The director Jake Schreierand notes that the film carries some of the Beef tone, which gives it a distinct feel.

"We brought an emotional darkness to this that resonates, but it doesn’t come at the expense of comedy."
Thunderbolts brings together a team of antiheroes, including Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), and Red Guardian (David Harbour). Directed by Jake Schreier, the film explores their mission and the complex dynamics between these troubled characters.
The movie hits theatres on July 26, 2024.
