29 Years Later: Adam Sandler Brings Back 'Happy Gilmore' for Netflix

Netflix unveils teaser for Happy Gilmore’s long-awaited sequel.

On December 25, 2024, Netflix delighted fans by releasing the first teaser trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the 1996 comedy classic.

Adam Sandler reprises his role as Happy Gilmore, the hot-tempered hockey player turned golfer. The teaser showcases Sandler in his iconic Boston Bruins jersey, effortlessly returning to the golf course. EW

The sequel introduces a dynamic ensemble cast, including NFL star Travis Kelce, who makes his big-screen debut. In the teaser, Kelce, dressed as a golf club member, greets Happy with the line, "It's good to have you back, Mr. Gilmore."

Other notable additions include Grammy-winning artist Bad Bunny, actress Margaret Qualley, comedian Nick Swardson, musician Scott Mescudi (Kid Cudi), and filmmaker Benny Safdie. The teaser also hints at the return of Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin, Happy's longstanding rival.

Sandler co-wrote the sequel with Tim Herlihy, continuing their successful collaboration from the original film. While the exact release date is yet to be announced, Happy Gilmore 2 is slated to premiere on Netflix in 2025.

The original Happy Gilmore remains a fan favorite, grossing over $41 million worldwide and solidifying Sandler's status as a leading figure in comedy. The sequel aims to capture the same humor and heart, promising a nostalgic yet fresh experience for both new viewers and longtime fans.
