Two decades after first slipping into the Slytherin robes of Draco Malfoy, Tom Felton is preparing to conjure magic once again — only this time, he’ll be doing it live, eight shows a week, on Broadway. The Harry Potter star is set to join the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, marking the first time a member of the original film ensemble steps into the stage version of the Wizarding World.
Felton’s run begins 11 November and continues through March 2026, with the actor playing a grown-up Draco who’s now a father sending his own son off to Hogwarts. "The most exciting part is to do it live," Felton said at the Tony Awards. "I get to be a dad, which is really fun."
But unlike the films, where the wand-work often came courtesy of green screens and post-production wizardry, Broadway’s Cursed Child relies on practical stage illusions and sleight-of-hand. Felton admits he initially didn’t want to know how the effects were done — until the creative team informed him he had no choice. "They said, 'Well, you’re going to have to,'" he laughed. "Everything is live and real."
Despite the noise around J.K. Rowling’s controversies, Felton remains focused on the unifying power of the story. "I’ve not seen anything bring the world together more than Potter," he said. Whether you grew up with the books or the films, this marks a rare chance to see one of the original cast members rediscover the magic — without a single frame of CGI in sight.
