'The Most Fun I Had'— 'Final Destination' Director Reveals his Favorite Scene in the Franchise

Still from the film 'Final Destination'

James Wong reflects on the unforgettable, thrilling, and shocking moments.

The director of Final Destination has a favorite death scene, and chances are, it might just be to your liking.

James Wong spoke with Bloody Disgusting about the lasting impact of the Final Destination franchise, revealing that Final Destination 3 was the most enjoyable film he's ever worked on and features his favorite death scene.

''That was probably the most fun I had in shooting a movie, and I felt fully confident that we knew what we were doing. We felt like the kills were right and the characters were right. The most effective death for me — well, besides the bus hit, which was just a shocking, fun surprise — is the tanning bed sequence.''

Wong shared that he truly empathized with the girls in Final Destination 3, noting how vulnerable they seemed in the tanning bed scene. While the tanning beds on set weren’t actually hot, their genuine reactions made him uncomfortable, and he knew at that moment the scene would be effective.

The Final Destination franchise is a legendary horror series known for its unique premise of death pursuing its victims after they cheat fate. The series consists of five films, starting with Final Destination in 2000 and ending with Final Destination 5 in 2011. Directed by James Wong, the first and third films are particularly memorable, with Wong helming both of them. The franchise has become a cultural phenomenon, influencing countless other horror films with its inventive death scenes and darkly creative storytelling.
