Kate Hudson has had a long and illustrious Hollywood career, but there’s one role she now wishes she hadn’t passed up — Andrea Sachs in the 2006 hit film The Devil Wears Prada.
A Role That Slipped Away
Speaking on Capital FM’s Capital Breakfast on February 21, 2025, Hudson revealed that she was originally offered the part of Andy, the fresh-faced aspiring journalist who lands a demanding assistant role at a high-fashion magazine. However, due to scheduling conflicts, she was unable to accept the opportunity. "That was a bad call," Hudson, 45, admitted. "It was a timing thing. It was one of those situations where I just couldn’t make it work, and I should’ve made it happen. And when I saw the movie, I was like, ‘Ugh.’"
The Success of The Devil Wears Prada
As history shows, the role of Andy Sachs ultimately went to Anne Hathaway, who delivered a memorable performance alongside Meryl Streep’s formidable Miranda Priestly. The film was both a critical and commercial success, grossing $326 million worldwide and securing Streep her 14th Academy Award nomination.

Based on Lauren Weisberger’s bestselling novel, The Devil Wears Prada follows Andy’s journey as she navigates the cutthroat fashion world under the demanding rule of Priestly, the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. Alongside Hathaway and Streep, the film also starred Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, and Adrian Grenier.
A Possible Sequel in the Works?
Over the years, rumors of a sequel have surfaced, fueled by fan enthusiasm and hints from the original cast. In December 2024, Blunt teased at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah that discussions were ongoing. "There are rumblings," she told the audience, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. "There is stuff churning around. But I don’t know if I can confirm anything. But we would all be delighted."
Hudson’s Ongoing Success
As for Hudson, she has continued to build an impressive filmography, starring in numerous projects since 2006, including Bride Wars (2009) alongside Hathaway. She is currently headlining Netflix’s new sports comedy Running Point, a series inspired by the career of L.A. Lakers President Jeanie Buss.

According to Netflix, Running Point is a fresh take on the underdog story, centering on Isla, a determined but often overlooked woman striving to prove she’s the right choice to lead a major sports franchise. Hudson’s latest role adds another dynamic character to her extensive resume, even if she occasionally wonders about the one that got away.
