Severance is a psychological thriller series that premiered on Apple TV+ on February 18, 2022. Created by Dan Erickson and directed by Ben Stiller, the show takes place in a dystopian near-future where employees at a mysterious corporation undergo a procedure that severs their work and personal memories. The plot follows Mark Scout (played by Adam Scott), who works at Lumon Industries, where employees' lives are compartmentalized — one for work and one for home.
Cast and Director
Severance features Adam Scott as the lead character, Mark Scout, who is navigating a complex and chilling life where work and personal identities are kept completely separate. Other key cast members include Patricia Clarkson, Christopher Walken, John Turturro, and Britt Lower. The series was created by Dan Erickson, with Ben Stiller serving as director, lending his signature style to the dark and thought-provoking series.
Season 1 Success
The first season of Severance was an instant success, earning widespread praise for its original premise, unique aesthetic, and compelling narrative. The show captivated audiences with its exploration of corporate culture, identity, and the consequences of a society that separates work from personal life. The stellar performances from the cast, particularly Adam Scott, Patricia Clarkson, Christopher Walken, and John Turturro, helped make Severance one of the most talked-about TV series of 2022.
Season 2 Release date
Season 2 of Severance premiered on January 17, 2024. Season 2 continues Mark and the team’s quest to fully unravel the mystery of what they actually do at Lumon. They sort macrodata, but beyond that, they don’t know what it is they sort or what the outcome of their work is. This might ultimately bridge the “severance” procedure, which separates work and personal lives, at the core of the story.
The series contains 10 episodes, one more than the first season’s nine. New episodes roll out weekly on Fridays after the premiere. Each episode becomes available for streaming on Thursday nights at midnight, or early Friday morning, depending on perspective.
As of February 12, four episodes of Severance Season 2 have been released, with the last episode set to debut on March 21.
