Harrison Ford opens up about taking on the role of Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross in Captain America: Brave New World, a character made legendary by the late William Hurt. The veteran actor, 82, brings new life to the iconic character while honoring Hurt's legacy.
At the Los Angeles premiere on February 11, Ford reflected on following in Hurt's footsteps. "We knew each other enough to nod and say hello, but I didn't know the man very well," Ford shared about Hurt, who passed away in 2022 at 71.

"But I knew his work, and his work is fantastic. To have the opportunity to step into the shoes of a character that he helped to create was not a barrier to me. It seemed like a wonderful opportunity when I read the script."
A New Chapter in the MCU
In Captain America: Brave New World, Ford portrays Ross, who is now the President of the United States and transforms into the formidable Red Hulk. The film highlights the tense dynamic between Ross and Sam Wilson's Captain America, played by Anthony Mackie. Unlike his predecessor, Steve Rogers, Wilson faces the conflict without the aid of the super soldier serum.

Ford has previously spoken about stepping into the role at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024. At the event, he praised Hurt's contributions to the character:
"He laid a very firm foundation for the character. I respect him enormously in the work that he did in his lifetime. God bless his soul. I'm delighted to be able to stand on his shoulders and continue playing the character."
Captain America: Brave New World features a stellar ensemble cast, including Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Giancarlo Esposito, and Xosha Roquemore. The film hits theaters on February 14.
With admiration for William Hurt's legacy and excitement for the future of the MCU, Ford steps confidently into the Marvel spotlight, blending respect for the past with enthusiasm for what's ahead.
